WHY are we OFFERING A SCHOLARSHIP?
To help young students avoid DEBT! When I started college in 2003, I was 18 years old and a new mom. I actually started classes the same month I gave birth to my daughter. I was scared and nervous, yet excited and hopeful.
During my college years, I struggled with managing my personal finances. I used a significant amount of student loan debt and credit card debt to pay for college tuituion, books, housing costs, and other monthly expenses.
I now realize that I could have went to school without student loans. Only if I knew then what I know now. This is why we must teach students how to manage their personal finances and how to graduate from college debt free. Most people think a college education is out of reach unless you have lots of money, get a FULL academic or athletic scholarship, or use debt. I'm here to tell you that going to college debt free is absolutely possible. It's within your reach, but you have to get up, get out there and grab it. There are so many options to pay for school, whether if it's with scholarships, grants or working your way through school. Don't fall into the trap of student loan and credit card debt to pay for college and living expenses.
Most people don't talk about what happens if you can't or choose not to pay back student loans and credit card debt. If you ignore the debts, your financial present and future becomes a mess. If you already have debt, make an action plan to not add any more debt. Start your journey to a debt free education by applying for the 2019 SmileHeartz Scholarship.
Apply for other scholarships as well. One option is www.myscholly.com. You can use their website or download their app. It does cost $2.99 to access their entire database, but that is just a very small investment that allows you to search a large database of scholarships. Another option is scholarship resources provided by your school. Just like saving small amounts of money over time can add up to a lot, it's the same with scholarships. A lot of them can add up to pay for the majority or all of your college expenses. It's better to work hard and smart now to get as many opportunities to pay for school without debt, than to graduate realizing you have a new job or started your own business and you're earning way less than the amount you have racked up in student loans and credit card debt.
